I bought this book and do like it. I just thought it would be less about a religious outlook than it really is. I'm not religious and neither is my family, so I don't really look for religious books. However, this book is great, just not exactly what I was hoping for.Product details

Transformational Mothering edition by Amy RobbinsWilson Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Robbins-Wilson embraces mothering - with all its highs and lows - as a spiritual practice, and every joy and trial as an occasion for prayer. Her prayers are simple, grace-filled expressions of faith "Help me. Guide us. Bless this child. Thank you." These are not fancy prayers. They are spare, honest, practical and lovely. There are prayers about adoption, premature birth, breast-feeding, doctor's appointments and illness; about making mistakes, experiencing loss and wrestling with body image. In their simplicity, these prayers invite the reader to find her own voice; to adapt, revise and add to what is written. The language is open enough to be appropriate for women of varied faith traditions; while the author writes of God, Spirit and angels, there are no references to Christ. As a mother and as a pastor, I welcomed this small treasure trove of prayers that affirm God's love and presence in the lives of mothers. I look forward to sharing this book with others.

I was so touched and blessed by this book, I wish I had it when I was going through my first pregancy and my then-infant son's health problems 8 years ago. Throughout pregnancy and as a new mom, I read everything I could find about what to expect, but what was missing from every book was how spititual the journey can be when we become parents -- parenting changes us in amazing and bewildering ways. Lots of times things happen that we can't expect or plan for. I love the gentleness of this book as it addresses the things that can break us -- exhaustion, worry, comparing ourselves to other moms and their journeys, experiencing complications in pregnancy or our baby's health problems. I appreciate Amy Robbins-Wilson's candor and the beautiful simplicity of her prayers, and it is MY prayer that this book will help many, many new mothers or mothers-to-be who need validation and comfort along the crazy journey of becoming a parent. This book is going on my list of books that I will give to every new mom or mom-to-be that I know.
When Transformational Mothering was given to me I was worried because I do not consider myself a Christian and I did not know what to expect. I anticipated being offended in some way but this book is so beautifully written and so inclusive that I felt connected to the community of mothers in a way I had not fully experienced before. This book made me feel like could pray again.
Transformational Mothering did more than touch my soul, it was useful. It is a book that I refer to over and over again for comfort, inspiration or just a good laugh.
What impressed me most was how this first time mother really understood the complexity of her journey as a mother, that she could put it into words and that she could honor her journey and the journey of other mothers. It was empowering to read. This book is a true gift to anyone who is thinking of becoming a mother or who is a mother or who wants a great gift for a mother.
This book is not only for pregnant or new mother's after giving birth. There are also prayers for dealing with the emotional roller coaster that is "trying to conceive" and is for ANY new mother - adoptive or birth. No matter how we became a mother, we go through changes and challenges. While every woman's situation is different, we share a lot of similar emotional hurdles.
I wish I had this book sooner (my daughter is now 9 months old). I think I would have found comfort in Amy's words while we struggled to conceive and during those early days when sleep didn't come easy. Oh, and during those days when we struggled with latching on. Those were days filled with tears and I struggled against losing hope. While we came out successful, her words could have served as comfort.
*I received a copy in order to review on my blog but was not required to post it here.
A source of inspiration for mothers everywhere. I enjoyed the prayers and plan on using them daily! There is so much wisdom and comfort here!!
I was looking for a steady read - it has a lot of prewritten prayers, which is great but many didnt apply to my situation (ie - adoption, miscarriage....). I ended up skipping through a lot of the book.
I am only half way into this book but it is exactly the type of inspirational spiritual and prayerfilled book I have been looking for. I am so thankful to have found it.
I bought this book and do like it. I just thought it would be less about a religious outlook than it really is. I'm not religious and neither is my family, so I don't really look for religious books. However, this book is great, just not exactly what I was hoping for.
